Dr. Sridhar Premkumar is a well-regarded educator among dental students in India for his mastery teaching and clinical skills. He is an active researcher, reviewer of several professional publications and has numerous articles to his credit. Furthermore, he is an established author and one among a few Asian authors to be recognized globally. He is presently on the faculty as the Professor of Orthodontic and Dentofacial Orthopedics Department at Tamil Nadu Government Dental College and Hospital, Chennai, India.

Regardless of the capacious research existing in the domain of craniofacial growth over centuries, one cannot deny the notion that it had been a long haul expectation to effectuate the conceptual facts together for better correlation and understanding. It needs a prodigious valor to be a forerunner in fresh compilation and the author had undergone great toil to present his book in this commendable manner. More than alluring illustrations and simple vocabulary, the channelized mode of concept keeps the reader engaging, which is infrequent in subject books.

This book may neither limit nor define your horizon of knowledge in craniofacial growth but blow out your curiosity to newer dimensions such as explore, expand and excel. Chapters such as “Growth rotations,” “Maturation of orofacial functions,” “Genetics and craniofacial growth” and “Emotional growth” needs a special mention here. Basic topics like biology, physiology of bones and cartilage, the micro- mechanisms involved in it are discussed exhaustively.

Stomatognathic system which includes control mechanisms, development of dentition and supporting structures, myology, neuromuscular reflexes have been explained in crystal clear manner. Interestingly, the soft tissue and emotional growth are elaborated for the 1st time for dental students. The phenomenal reviews of growth in adolescence and beyond, predictions, patterns in varying skeletal types and its role in orthodontic treatment are noticed. However, it would have been better if “computerized prediction of growth and development,” had been detailed further and we expect it in upcoming editions.

This book is highly recommended and a must learnt book for postgraduate orthodontic students. Like all reference textbooks, good index and bibliography are listed. Since, most of the articles cited are internationally perceived ones, it will favor with least diffidence for those imminent authors and researchers who refer this book. It can be advocated for sure that this is a fundamental book for burgeoning orthodontists, maxillofacial surgeons, anatomists, osteologists, forensic medical examiners, forensic anthropologists, forensic odontologists, and any specialists who count on the nuances of craniofacial growth and development on their daily basis. There is no doubt that this book will be treasured.
